Northcote Junior Rugby team awarded Sportsmanship Award
Wednesday, 24 August 2011
Coach Leigh Utton has been coaching in the Junior Club for four years. He led the team that put together last year’s highly successful Snow White J7 Invitational Tournament.
Northcote Junior Club Captain Craig Maunder said “Leigh was instrumental in reinvigorating the Snow White Tournament in 2010 and returning it to its core values which are all about fair play and sportsmanship as teams and kids move from the rippa rugby into tackle rugby. It’s no surprise to me that Leigh carried those same values into his team in 2011, a sportsman and a true character that Northcote can be proud of.”
Leigh is also somewhat of a media celebrity, you can follow him and his friends as they tour the North Island during the Rugby World Cup in the New Zealand Herald series entitled “What goes on Tour…”
But it’s not just about the coach and manager, the kids of Northcote J7 Gold can be proud of what they have achieved this season. They are unbeaten, and their closest game of the season occurred when they ‘lent’ their best player to their opposition who were short.
The players in Northcote J7 Gold are Cody, Corvin, Dontae, Holly, Micah, Logan, Raymond, Rohaan, Tyler and Leo. Northcote salute you for representing the club with your fairplay and sportsmanship.
