HARBOUR SEVENS VICTORS

A successful season for Northcote Rugby was capped off on Saturday with the men’s open A team winning the North Harbour sevens title at the Albany stadium.

Not to be outdone, the Under 20 B team had earlier made the final going down to Massey. Defending the inaugural Wildermoth Cup, kindly donated by Northcote Rugby club stalwarts John and Kathy Wildermoth, the Under 20s squads introduced a number of new comers to the Club.

A record turn out led to the Northcote Club entering four teams into this annual sevens tournament, which is restricted to registered North Harbour Club and secondary school players only.  The Northcote rugby complement   consisted of 2 x open and 2 x Under 20 squads.

The Open tournament title was an exceptional effort for the Club, playing the same North Shore rivals in the final, as in the North Harbour fifteens championship decider.

Stand out players for Northcote in the final were Phil Tuigamala, Theo Hermans and Cam Larnder. Matty Marwick was misfortunate to suffer a painful dislocated shoulder. Lucky Palamo also had a stand out tournament.
